HOLIDAY FOR SCHOOLS IN KODAGU. BHAGAMANDALA AND NAPOKLU CUT OFF DUE TO FLOODS Madikeri/Somwarpet: Following heavy rainfall in Kodagu district Bhagamandala and few areas of Napoklu were cut off by swollen river Cauvery. District administration has declared holiday for schools and pre-university colleges on Thursday. Veerabhadra Achari’s house in Mookonda Bane of Napoklu collapsed and house of K N Radha and her mother Revathi in Koalkeri village was damaged due to gusty wind and rain. Former vice-president of Napoklu panchayat Ahamad and Revenue Inspector Ramaiah visited the victims and assured them of compensation. In Bhagamandala, roads at Aiyyangeri, Napoklu and towards Madikeri education institutions were inundated. The schools in these areas registered poor attendance as parents expected the water to rise by evening so did not send their children, it was said. As per the latest information from the district administration, two persons died when lightning struck them and one person died in Cauvery flood. According to reports, 63 houses were damaged and 21 cattle died due to rain havoc. The district suffered a total loss of around `2713.61 lakhs, the reports said. Subrahmanya Devotees Stranded Mangalore: With the Kumaradhara river in spate, the bridge in Subrahmanya submerged yet again on Wednesday, leaving some devotees stranded at Kukke Subrahmanya temple. The temple’s famous bathing ghats and many shops in the area too were inundated as the water level did not show any signs of receding. Heavy rain continued in Subrahmanya and surrounding areas and schools and colleges remained closed. With the Kumaradhara bridge submerged, vehicles have to take alternative Panja route.
