HOLLYWOOD MOVIE MATRIX (1999) INSPIRED BY HINDUISM : The hollywood movie Matrix (1999) that won 4 Academy Awards as well as well as 2 BAFTA and 2 SATURN awards was inspired by Sanatan Dharma .The story is inspired by the essence of Bhagavad Gita and Hindu concepts from Vedas, while the songs include various shlokas (snippets) from Upanishads like Mundaka and Katha. Let me start with the very beginning and then move on : 1)One of the first scenes of the movie show Neo sleeping at his computer while searching for answers about the world he lives in. Then Trinity approaches Neo in the nightclub and tells him, Its the question that drives us Neo ... its the question that brought you here. Each one of us has, at some point of time, thought about the world we live in, our purpose here and most importantly - who am I? But then life takes over and we move on, like most of the people in Matrix, except handful of those who choose to find the answers. 2) Next, Trinity goes on to say, the answer is out there and it will find you, if you want it to. Thats the concept of maya, or illusion. Scriptures say that the truth is everywhere, but we have let ourselves drown in the ocean of illusion, and we can only come up if we ourselves choose to. 3 )And then the epic first meeting of Neo and Morpheus. Morpheus questions Neo, if you had a dream that seemed so real, what if you were unable to wake from that dream, how would you know the difference between the real and the dream. This theme of distinguishing reality from illusion runs throughout the movie. This is also the essence of Gita. Chapter 8 of the Gita creates a distinction between the illusory world of matter and the spiritual world. Yet there is another unmanifest nature, which is eternal and is transcendental to this manifested and unmanifested matter. It is supreme and is never annihilated. When all in this world is annihilated, that part remains as it is. 4) Morpheus and Neo - The Entire concept of Guru Hinduism emphasizes that in order to achieve spiritual perfection, one needs to have a guru or guide. Guru guides his pupil towards Truth. This is exactly what Morpheus does - he takes Neo as his pupil and walks him towards reality 5)You take the blue pill, you wake up in your bed believing whatever you want to believe; you take the red pill and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Morpheus concludes, all Im offering is the truth. Krishna and Morpheus both make it clear to their disciples that they can exercise their free will to either accept the advice or reject it. As the guru and guide, Morpheus explains the truths to Neo, but ultimately leaves it up to Neo to make the decision. 6)When Morpheus takes Neo to the Oracle, he says, I can only show you the door, but youre the one who has to walk through it. A Guru can only guide, but the pupil is responsible for his Karma. At each moment, at each stage of his spiritual progress, he decides how far he wants to go and he can be sure that many tests and temptations (moha and maya) will come to distract him from his spiritual pursuits. So the Matrix revolves around the message from Bhagavad Gita - there are two worlds - most of the people live in the illusionary one, its only those who choose to look past the maya, or illusion slowly come to this realization. The Bhagavad Gita and the Matrix depict wonderfully the struggles an individual has to undergo when embarking on a journey leading to the ultimate truth. Some of these struggles are related to ones faith and the other to ones determination to continue. For spiritual progress to be steady, we will need to follow one of Morpheus final pieces of advice: You have to let it all go Neo, fear, doubt, and disbelief. 7)The Matrix is an illusion. This version of Hinduism says that our current way of life (calledSamsara) is an illusion. Those who are aware of the Matrix have varying degrees of powers. Those on the path to enlightenment gain various powers such as levitation. The Matrix is cyclic. Samsara is cyclic. THE SIMILARITIES NOT JUST END THERE.SEE THIS VIDEO OF THE THEME SONG OF THE MATRIX REVOLUTION AND ITS LIFTED FROM UPANISHADS BUT THEY NEVER GAVE CREDIT . youtube/watch?v=QZnxCsvS99o
