HOLY COW MAWAGE chapter #8 Holy Cow and the woman God gave him, Kickapoo, would be presiding over the wedding ceremony; they were Cotton Tail’s Uncle and Aunt; Holy Cow was the Flat Butt tribe’s holy man. Tall Tail, with Coyote standing next to him as his best man, stood in front of Holy Cow, surrounded by the members of both tribes waiting for the appearance of Cotton Tail. A flood of thoughts seemed to flow through Tall Tail’s mind, most of them, what if’s. Turning to Coyote he says, this ain’t no kids game is it? “I don’t believe it is” says Coyote. It appears to me it’s as serious as being dragged through the sticker bushes by a Grizzly Bear while one is thumping him with a hickory stick up side his head, scare me! Then Coyote said something that seems almost too profound to come from someone whose butt is built so close to the ground: Tall Tail he says, “I don’t believe there is anyway for anyone to prepare themselves for something they have never experienced before.” Just then, the noise in the crowd announced that the bride to be had arrived. Turning, Tall Tail sees Cotton Tail being escorted by her father Big Bear. WHOA! Thinks Tall Tail, “what a beautiful lady,” as she is brought to his side. As Tall Tail looked into the eyes of Cotton Tail, something he had never felt before moved in his heart. Aw geez thought Tall Tail; one could cry and be too sweet right in front of all these people. As he stood there looking into Cotton Tail’s loving eyes, all of a sudden they were alone, just the two them, lost in the moment. The only way to describe it was: the butter had melted and the honey was starting to flow. Thankfully, Holy Cow realized he had better pick the pace up with this wedding, before things got too sticky. So Holy Cow begins; Mawage is wot bwings us togeder tooday. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam wifin a dweam... Holy Cow always started his wedding ceremonies off with the same line; he had been present at the wedding of Humperdink and Butter Cup, because they needed 10% minority representation and Humperdink was a stickler for political correctness. Holy Cow had been so taken by the grandeur of that ceremony he thought using that line always added a little class to things. Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife? “I do” says Tall Tail. And do you Cotton Tail take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband? “I do” says Cotton Tail. Of all the trails in life that one can traverse, the one you two are taking here is one of the sweetest. Two are better than one, they keep each other warm; and they will nourish and care one for another; up lift and cherish and make life’s journey here worthwhile. What God has joined together, let no man separate! And a three fold cord is not easily broken. Do you two understand these things? “We do” says Tall Tail and Cotton Tail. By the powers invested in me by God Almighty, I pronounce you man and wife; you may kiss your bride! After kissing Cotton Tail, Tall Tail looks deep into the eyes of Cotton Tail and tells her, “I have never been chosen for anything or by anyone, but God and you, as I stand here I do not have the words to thank or express my appreciation for you, you have stole my heart. Cotton Tail’s eyes filled with tears, and she simply said: “I GONNA LOVE YOU!” Tall Tail’s neck swelled all up, and it was on now, and there was no stopping it!
