HOMICIDE UPDATE At approximately 11:00 PM on May 10, 2014, the Huntington Beach Police Department received a call in the area of Memphis Ave. and Alabama St. indicating the caller had just heard firecrackers in the area and someone yelling. Officers responded and checked the area several minutes later and were unable to locate anything unusual. At approximately 8:30 AM on May 11, Tyrrell Louis Rathbun age 44 was found deceased from gunshot wounds in the south alley in the 200 block of Memphis Ave. Mr. Rathbun is described as a light skinned black male, 44 years old, 5-10, 235 with short dark hair, having several weeks growth of full beard. He was wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt and grey shorts. He was in possession of a black beach cruiser bicycle having a blue and white seat and a large extension cord on a reel. Investigators believe Mr. Rathbuns death occurred at the time of the original call of fire crackers on May 10th based on the circumstances and the results of an autopsy performed by the Orange County Sheriff/Coroner. Investigators are unsure of where Mr. Rathbuns most recent residence is and are attempting to locate anyone who may have information about him as well as anyone who may have any information that may be related to his recent activites or whereabouts. Shown below is a photograph of Mr. Rathbun as well as the bicycle and an extension cord he was in possession of when found.
