HOMILY: DEATH IS NOT THE END OF LIFE BUT THE BEGINNING OF LIFE WITH GOD FOREVER. The Church is divided into 3 groups: 1) Church Triumphant- They have become victorious as they have overcome & conquered the world through their saintly lives; 2) Church Militant- This group who are living constantly struggles against the temptations of the world so they can attain the status of the Church Triumphant; 3) Church Suffering- The group that is in the place of purification so that one day they can be worthy of eternal life. These 3 groups are interdependent. Church Militant go to the saints in Church Triumphant for intercession while those in Church Suffering cannot pray for themselves. Flowers will wilt, candles will melt and food will rot, but prayers & sacrifices will make heavens open for those in purgatory. Today is that day. We should not forget to pray for our beloved dead for our prayers will shorten their stay in purgatory where intense pain is experienced.
