HOMILY: THE STORY OF THE HOLY FAMILY EMBRACES THE HUMAN STORY- - TopicsExpress

HOMILY: THE STORY OF THE HOLY FAMILY EMBRACES THE HUMAN STORY- There are two main points in the story of the Holy Family:1) God has embraced our human history- Mary was supposed to be condemned by Jewish society because of an “unexpected pregnancy” before her wedding to her betrothed; Joseph- feared for the life of his Son when he learned that King Herod had strict orders to kill all boys below the age of two. So he had to take his family & flee to Egypt for his family’s safety & protection; Christ Child- since the beginning, He was destined to be a “fugitive”; dislocated & had to seek asylum elsewhere. Each member of the Holy Family has experienced what we in the present generation has experienced one time or another. Mary is compared to the marginalized people of our time: unwanted; scoffed upon due to circumstances beyond us; Joseph’s experience is like that of migrant Filipinos who have to seek “protection”- assurance of a decent life elsewhere for the sake of the family. The Christ Child’s is like that of our typhoon-ravaged families: no decent place to live. God our Father tells us that our stories of suffering are no different from that of the Holy Family. The 2nd point: We are invited by God to embrace stories of others- to make their stories our own to show understanding, mercy & compassion to others. We have to help each other as what the Lord whishes us to do as what the Holy Family has shown to help us attain salvation.
