HON. SATURDAY EKANEM ADVOCATES FOR MAINTENANCE OF ZONING IN ORUK ANAM TITLE: Co-ordinator Seeks Support For PDP Zoning Arrangement (Published by Weekend Pioneer of Saturday, August2, 2014, pg17) As political activities gather momentum in Oruk Anam local government area, Hon. Saturday Ekanem , a political stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and coordinator of Nto Afe Annang, Oruk Anam chapter, has called on Oruk Anam people to support and emulate the current zoning system projected by the governor and the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to maintain peace and harmony in the area. Mr. Saturday Ekanem, while exalting the example set by the party at the state level by zoning the governorship seat to Eket senatorial district, called on the people of Oruk Anam to maintain the zoning of the forth coming state house of assembly position in Oruk Anam to the Oruk axis of the local government as is the tradition. Ekanem, a onetime supervisory Councillor for Agriculture in Oruk Anam local government council commended the state governor for the uncommon transformation of the state which has brought honour and glory to the Annang nation in particular and Akwa Ibom state in general. The Nto Afe Annang, Oruk Anam chapter coordinator thanked Anthe national president of Nto Afe Annang, Adede Isidore for the successful hosting of group’s convention and also congratulated Mr. Esitekom Ekpo on his award of excellence by national body of the group. He expressed appreciation to all the members of Oruk Anam chapter for participating in the national convention of the body held on 21st June 2014 at Obot Akara and urged members to inculcate the habit of projecting the good image of the association wherever they find themselves. On 2015 election, Hon. Ekanem insisted on protection of the zoning system in Oruk Anam politics, which he said is in accordance with the PDP constitution. He also commended the elders of Oruk Anam politics among whom are Senator Chief Ittak Ekarika, Otuekong Don Etiebet, Chief Donald Etiebet, late Peter Udoessien, among others who initiated and institutionalised the present zoning formulae currently enjoyed by the local government area. He advised every Oruk Anam person to embrace the zoning formulae which received popular endorsement at the PDP stakeholders meeting held on 22nd December 2011 at Ikot Ibritam. It would be recalled that at the said meeting, the zoning formula was Re-enacted and adopted by the political elders of the local government area and stakeholders of PDP and captured in the minutes of the meeting thus ’the zoning system in Oruk Anam is in two ways, that is Oruk and Anam while the other way are five zoning areas (1) Ikot ibritam (2) Ndot ikot okoro(3) Ekparakwa zone (4)Ibesit Nnung Ikot and (5) Abak midim respectively’’. ‘’By right the chairmanship position should be zoned to Ndot Ikot okoro in 2011 but since the Federal House member comes from Ndot Ikot Okoro, they cannot produce the chairman again, and since Ekparakwa zone have two special advisers, that the chairmanship position should be zone to ward 1 and 2 Ikot Ibritam zone, SO THAT BY SUBSEQUENT ELECTION(2015) THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY CAN NOW GO TO EKPARAKWA ZONE ”. In a nutshell, the meeting emphasized that the right to the office of State House Assembly in Oruk Anam in 2015 belongs to Ekparakwa zone. The former supervisor said that from time immemorial, the office has been rotational between Oruk and Anam. It would be recalled that Hon. Sunday Okoko , Hon Mabel Udongwo, Hon. Iboro Udom took one term each and therefore the incumbent, Hon. Udo Kierian of Anam should as a matter of obligation do same for the sake of peace, equity and fairness. The coordinator emphasized that there is no reason why anyone should attempt to alter or rewrite the zoning formulae and urged everyone to embrace established zoning arrangement institutionalized by conscientious citizens of Oruk Anam. Zoning will bring sanity, understanding and maturity into the system as well as promote fairness, equity and justice in Oruk Anam.
