HONDA RACING INFORMATION 2014 FIM MXGP/MX2 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 08, MATTERLEY BASIN, GREAT BRITAIN SUNDAY MAY 25, 2014 Weather: Bright Temperature: 17 degrees Attendance: 25,000 GAJSER BURSTS THROUGH FOR FIRST CAREER PODIUM The climate was predictably unpredictable across round eight of seventeen of the FIM Motocross World Championship that saw the series descend upon Matterley Basin for the British Grand Prix. The British fixture will be a career milestone for Gariboldi Hondas Tim Gajser as the seventeen year old rode superbly to score third position overall in the MX2 class for his very first spray of champagne at Grand Prix level. The result buoyed the HRC ranks in what was a strange and ultimately disappointing meeting for the Honda World Motocross team. Max Nagl missed his third Grand Prix of the season as he continues to recuperate from a wrist injury and Evgeny Bobryshev was also absent in the UK as unsolvable visa issues meant that the Russian was bitterly frustrated not to receive the necessary paperwork in time to be able to compete. Antonio Cairoli (KTM) ended up winning the premier MXGP class from Clement Desalle (Suzuki) and Jeremy Van Horebeek (Yamaha) after two motos run in sunny but windy conditions near Englands south coast. The build-up to the event at the popular, flowing and technical circuit saw heavy rain dampen the site and create a soft and rutty terrain. Further showers on Saturday forced a shortening of the practice and qualification schedule but on raceday the skies were largely blue and forgiving. Gajser took his CRF250R to the third step of the MX2 rostrum behind Jeffrey Herlings (KTM) and Arnaud Tonus (Kawasaki) with results of fourth and third in the two thirty minute and two lap motos. The teenager had a difficult qualification on Saturday and showed nothing like podium potential in the wet but his speed was excellent to recover from two top ten starts and force his way into contention on Sunday. Elsewhere in MXGP it was left to J-Race Racings Joel Roelants to place as the highest CRF450R runner. The Belgian classified eleventh in only his eighth appearance at the highest level in red. Roelants holds ninth place in the championship standings as the campaign nears the halfway stage while Bobryshev is eleventh and Nagl sixth. The teams now head across the English Channel to contest the Grand Prix of France to the west coast of the country with 2011 Motocross of Nations circuit St Jean DAngely ready for the ninth appointment on the 2014 schedule next weekend. HONDA COMMENTS: Tim Gajser: Race Result: 4th/3rd Championship position: 6th Saturday was not so good because of a bad start in the qualification race and then two crashes but thankfully today was a different day! I finished fourth after some good passes in the first moto and then had a similar start around the top ten in the second race. I made a couple of mistakes, so had to concentrate to move up to third. It was a good ride. I was thinking smart and trying not to take too many risks. The bike is really good and I enjoy riding it. We did a lot of work during the winter and we are still testing throughout the season so I hope I can be up with the leaders a bit more! Roger Harvey, Honda World Motocross General Manager: We are thrilled for Tim, Giacomo and the whole Gariboldi crew who have worked hard for this kind of result and to be honest it has looked like it was coming in recent races. On the other hand we are very sad that we had no representation in MXGP here. Everything had been done, planning had been made and we went through the same visa process as every other occasion that Bobby has needed to be in the UK. When it seemed like the documents were not going to be processed in time then again we left no stone unturned to get the whole thing approved without any success. There is nothing more to say really and we have to take into consideration episodes like these for the future.
