HONORING A HERO Would you be willing to lay down your life for - TopicsExpress

HONORING A HERO Would you be willing to lay down your life for your friends? That’s exactly the question Lt. Nate Hutchinson was faced with on the night of January 4, 2012. While serving a search warrant with the Weber Metro Narcotics Strike Force, several agents were shot by an armed suspect. Nate was in another part of the house when the gunfire erupted but he immediately went to the aid of his fellow agents. Finding officers Casey Burrell and Jared Francom seriously wounded, Nate exchanged gunfire with the suspect as he pulled Casey to safety. In the process, Nate was shot twice, but without hesitation he returned to rescue Jared. Now out of ammunition, Nate was shot two more times as he dragged Jared from the house. Nate suffered injuries to both arms, his hip and ribs. He faced a long road to recovery, undergoing multiple surgeries before eventually being able to return to full duty. Today he was honored by the U.S. Department of Justice and presented with the Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery. Senators Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee bestowed this distinguished medal upon Nate during a ceremony at the Wallace F. Bennett Federal Building in Salt Lake City. This badge is one of the highest honors given to a law enforcement officer who performs an exceptional act of bravery while in the line of duty. Nate’s courageous and selfless acts that fateful night can only be defined as those of a true hero, and we are extremely honored to have him serving the citizens of Weber County.
