HONORING HEROS, MAKING IT POSSIBLE On Saturday, December 20th, 2014 tragedy struck the New York City Police Department and the family and friends of NYPD Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu when these brave officers were gunned down without provocation. In the following days, as the city mourned and funeral arrangements were being made, law enforcement officers from all over the United States, including the Phoenix Police Department, looked to determine how they could honor their fallen brethren. Shortly before the internment of Officer Wenjian Liu officials from “Jet Blue” airlines offered their services to transport two members of the Phoenix Police Honor Guard to New York City, at no cost, in order that our officers could be represented in the honoring of those who had fallen. Phoenix Police Officers Eric Miller and Charlie Holton traveled to New York City and, in full dress uniform, offered the respects and condolences of our department to the family, fellow officers and friends of Officer Rafael Ramos and Officer Wenjian Liu. “It was amazing and heartwarming at the same time” said Officer Miller. “The (funeral) services were in a residential neighborhood; row houses. Honor guards from all over the country lined the closed roadway and the people who lived in those houses opened their doors to all who had come to support their officers.” To have been a part of this humbling and somber event was truly an honor for our officers and for the Phoenix Police Department. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families of the fallen and with all our law enforcement brothers and sisters. Thank you Jet Blue.
