HONORING VETERANS ... THEN A GODWINK OF PEACE Alan Hoe was still heartbroken. His handsome 27 year old SON Nye-Noah was KILLED only 4 months before in Iraq. Nonetheless he accepted an invitation to travel from Hawaii to Washington to honor his son on MEMORIAL DAY at the Monument for Fallen Soldiers…THE WALL. Preparing to leave for the ceremony, he ATTACHED A BUTTON to his lapel. It was a PICTURE OF HIS SON with the words “My Hero” over it. He also carried a flowered lei, the Hawaiian symbol of friendship. [Option: Watch SQ tell this story on Fox & Friends/Veteran’s Day.] youtube/watch?v=cBrnpOsfBEY That morning A NURSE, Major Paula Coughlin, just back from duty in Iraq also had an invitation to speak. She was not fond of public speaking, but, at the last minute, decided to go. Alan arrived at the monument early, so he could introduce himself to the other speaker. “Are you Major Coughlin” he asked. She nodded. “I have something for you,” he said, placing the lei over her head. As she leaned forward to accept it, HER EYES LOCKED ON THE PICTURE in the button on Alan’s lapel. “I KNOW HIM,” she said. ”I was with him when he died!” In that instant AN INCREDIBLE GODWINK bonded two people, who moments before, were complete strangers. Both Alan and Paula BOTH FELT A PEACE, that surpassed all understanding. •••• That’s what godwinks do FOR YOU, too. They bring YOU reassurance and comfort. Godwinks are like GIFTS placed on the DOORSTEP for each one of us. My job is to ENCOURAGE you to OPEN THE DOOR and OPEN YOUR GIFT. Good wishes for memorable godwinks. SQuire
