HOPE Hang on Pain Ends Suicide Awareness and knowledge Back to the Mother of us all Star gazers and Dreamersankyou Janelle Fletcher This fabulous quote came to me in the very early (and deeply grieving) stages of my marriage split 6 years ago and after significant losses as part of that separation, I sat in my “humble-ness” and wondered who the hang was I if I didn’t have what I previously had, who was I when money (and the freedom of that) was not part of my equation, who was I in the context of being “solo” rather than relating in partnership, who was I on a benefit, versus an earning co-partner in business and who was I when motherhood is undervalued and that is where my top priority and value lay? In the midst of despair one day, I heard the words, “Janelle, in your nothingness, you have everything.” In the stripping away of what had been my life to what now was, I was given the opportunity to newly express myself, to become resourceful in different ways, to value the simplicity of my life, the stillness I could experience at the drop of a hat and the re-prioritising of my time, values and resources to really be more of who I really was. The “stripping away” actually gave me a place to discover and be more of me.” Through change and transition, we may ask ourselves, “Who am I now that things are different from what I expected?” (more of this in my Reading section below !) So what kinds of changes and transitions might “strip” us of what was, and allow us to have “what is” and “what is to become”? Health scares, problems, medical procedures Men’s and women’s health changes Marriage, separation or divorce Financial changes Singledom and/or difficult relationships Parenting challenges, split or blended family situations Death of someone significant Redundancy, retirement, change in work status Empty nest Disability Change in body shape and weight Infertility, miscarriage loss, stillbirth loss… Geographical change Many more…
