HOT ACTION DRIES WET COURT It didn’t rain at my house last - TopicsExpress

HOT ACTION DRIES WET COURT It didn’t rain at my house last night, but I live nine whole miles east of Zebulon. It rained in Z-town, according to my friend Bob who passes through the park every morning walking his dog(s), at about 5:30 am, just enough to make the courts all wet at 8:30. The dirt beside the courts was dry as a bone. I repeat: the courts were all wet. Can someone explain this to me? Anyway, to make a long story short if it’s not too late for that now, Zach Heath, Rodney Ogden, and I waited for Matt Moore to arrive with his broom, and together with my blower and a couple of towels, we had Centre Court in pristine condition by 9. I can’t tell you how ridiculous I felt when I looked over at the other court and noticed it was ready at 9 as well, and no one had done a thing over there. Rick Rogers arrived just as we were beginning to take the court, giving us five combatants. Rodney and I (The Sons of Thunder) grappled with The Youth Movement (Zach and Matt) in the first of many mini sets played Saturday. Today, for whatever reason, age and experience reigned over youthful exuberance and talent. Rodney and I got off to a good start by taking the first two games for a 2-0 lead, but Zach and Matt answered with two wins of their own to tie it up 2-2. Rodney Ogden’s serve was unbelievable during this set and we (The Sons of Thunder) were lucky that he got to serve twice. Suffice it to say that his blasts were simply unreturnable. Zach and Matt both hit some great shots during this set, but both also struggled a little bit with consistency, and that can really hurt. SoT took the next two games and the set by a 4-2 margin. Zach took a break and the Sons of Thunder locked horns with Rick and Matt (Riff & Raff). This was another good set and I’m not going to mislead you people into thinking that I remember the sequence of the games by making up some shit, so I’ll just say that the Sons won this set as well and I think it was another 4-2 bout. Rodney had a couple more strong service games to help push us over the top. Rick and Matt played well, but the big redheaded kid seemed to be on a mission. In the third set, Rick and I (The Elder Statesmen) took on Rodney and Zach (The Vanilla Oreo Brothers) while Matt took a break. The VOB jumped on the ES with both feet and won the first two games. Leading 2-0, the VOB suffered a lapse in concentration and allowed the ES to clawed back into the set and tie it 2-2. Mo (momentum) carried the ES to a third win in a row and the lead at 3-2, but the VOB regained their focus and won the sixth game to tie it all up at 3-3. The ES buckled down and scratched out a close win in game seven to take the set 4-3. Rick and Rodney (Shock & Son, but Rick prefers Shock & Thunder) tackled Matt and Zach in the next set. Again, the Youth Movement dazzled the crowd by ripping several winners, but again struggled to do it on a regular basis. With the score tied 2-2, Shock & Thunder dominated the next two games for a 4-2 victory. Michael Morgan showed up right on time as Zach and Matt had had enough for the day. Michael and I (Ambidextrous Rex & Lefty) took on the formidable duo of Shock & Son in the last set of the day, and since nobody was waiting to play, we made it a full set. Low on brain oxygen by this time, I remember being tied up with Rick and Rodney at 4-4, but that’s when they tightened the screws and walked away with the next two games for a 6-4 win Looking forward to playing again Sunday afternoon at 1.
