HOUR OF CODE This week students on all three campuses will be introduced to an Hour of Code. This is a national event aimed at helping introduce computer science to kids. When we think of coding a computer program we probably visualize someone staying up late at night to type a seemingly unending pattern of characters. Hour of Code turns a typically tedious task into an interactive game center. Students learn how to manipulate sprites using bits of preassigned code called logic blocks. By dragging and dropping these block and trial and error students begin to learn the concept of computer programming and the conceptual logic that allows students to solve these problems. This begins as simple as tracing a line, and grows into interactive game design. Celebrities, industry giants, and even President Obama are encouraging students across the country to try their hand at coding a computer. Please encourage your child to embrace this incredible skill. I think everyone in this country should learn to program a computer. Everyone should learn a computer language because it teaches you how to think. -Steve Jobs Encourage your children to code by visiting: tyn ker/hour-of-code Heres the link to the actual Computer Science Education Week website: csedweek.org/ AMAZING stats from last years Hour of Code: hourofcode/us
