HOW DID THE SILENT PEACE WALK CAME ABOUT? THE WAR The Silent - TopicsExpress

HOW DID THE SILENT PEACE WALK CAME ABOUT? THE WAR The Silent Peace Walk began on August of 2006. At that time, a conflict between Israel and Lebanon was going on. I was alone at home watching the news one late afternoon, when I saw the images on TV of this man, about my age, in a residential area where bombs had fallen. The man was in a state of shock and the reporter explained that his house had been hit by a bomb and neighbors were removing the rubble to retrieve the bodies of his wife and two sons. I immediately thought about my family. I, too, have two sons. THE COMMAND I remember that, in that moment, all the hair in my body stood up, and I heard a voice in the silence asking me, “What are you going to do?” I engaged in the internal dialogue, and my initial response was, “What can I do? This is happening in the Middle East and I am here, half way around the globe. There’s nothing I can do.” But I was deeply touched, and the command to do something persisted. THE ACTION At that time I was reading the books “Peace is Every Step,” and “The Long Road Turns to Joy: A Guide to Walking Meditation,” both by the Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh, and “Steps Toward Inner Peace” written by Peace Pilgrim. Influenced by these peacemakers, an idea emerged: to do a monthly walk for peace.~ Piero Falci silentpeacewalk.org/history
