HOW DO FLYING SQUIRRELS ENTER A HOUSE Flying Squirrels can enter a home through a hole as small as ½” inch. If the head can fit through then the rest of the body can fit through. Flying Squirrels do not have the strong large teeth like the Gray Squirrel does so holes that are chewed through to gain entry into a home are slightly less damaging but will need to be repaired to prevent weather damage. Like the Gray Squirrel the Flying Squirrel also chews on electric wiring causing a dangerous fire hazard to the homes occupants. Like any animal that invades your home Flying Squirrels will cause a messy and smelly problem with urine, feces, and food litter. Flying Squirrels will defecate and urinate throughout your attic insulation or walls eventually causing a bad odor in the home. The urine will saturate insulation causing brownish stains on walls and the ceiling. The food that they stash in the corners of the attics and in wall cavities may attract bugs, mice, and rats to your home.
