HOW DO YOU FIND PERFECT LOVE ON AN ISLAND? Gery Conover’s inn - TopicsExpress

HOW DO YOU FIND PERFECT LOVE ON AN ISLAND? Gery Conover’s inn on the island of Martha’s Vineyard is a model of PERFECTION … ranked among the top five in America. Yet, at the time of this story, life was not perfect because he HADN’T FOUND PERFECT LOVE. Meanwhile.... Paula was a beautiful woman from St Louis, with two dreams: starting a gift shop, and FINDING PRINCE CHARMING. Paula was spending a few days with a friend on the island of Nantucket. Among their plans was a day-trip to the nearby island of Martha’s Vineyard. On their way to Nantucket airport, however, the friend had a call from work … she had to go in. “Oh you go ahead to the Vineyard … you’ll love it” she counseled Paula. So, Paula took the ten-minute flight to Martha’s Vineyard ON HER OWN, discovering there were no airport cabs. An attendant spotted innkeeper Gery Conover just dropping someone off, and asked if he would BE SO KIND as to give this nice lady, Paula, a lift into Edgartown. Well, Gery found Paula absolutely captivating. He gave her a TOUR of his magnificent inn, and then, the whole island … for the whole day … and then, prevailed upon her to stay over. [OPTION - Watch this story, told from the Inn: hulu/watch/374945#i2,p0,d2] “ON NO … I couldn’t do that, said Paula … my friend is waiting for me on Nantucket. And then I have to leave there tomorrow for a business meeting in Boston. Oh no I couldn’t stay over.” “We have plenty of rooms at the inn,” continued Gery. “OH NO.” But a fog … perhaps divinely orchestrated … moved in to the Vineyard that evening, and no planes could fly. DARN FOG. Well Paula had no choice and said her goodbyes the following day as Gery IMPLORED her to stay … “just one more day.” “NO, NO … I couldn’t do that.” So, Paula flew to get her bags in Nantucket, then up to Boston, and unexpectedly was invited to a business lunch with a gift shop wholesaler. The waitress came to the table. “Miss … you have a phone call.” “Me?” It was Gary. “How did you possibly find me?” she asked. He said he called every gift wholesaler in Boston. Then he reiterated his request for her to COME BACK to the Vineyard. “OH NO … no, no … I couldn’t do that,” she said, finally begging off … her host was waiting at the table. At the Boston airport, Paula was moments from boarding her plane back to St Louis. Over the loud speaker … SHE HEARD HER NAME. The voice suggested that she pick up a courtesy phone. “Hi Paula … it’s Gery. I really want you to COME BACK to Martha’s Vineyard.” “OH NO, no, no…..” A flight attendant, about to close the door, was waving to her. “Are you coming?” she mouthed. “I really want you to come back,” said Gery, “for just a day or two.” “Are you coming?” insisted the attendant. “NO!” said Paula with urgency. She was looking at the attendant. Gery told her what gate she needed to go to, and to wait for a chartered plane would pick her up in 30 minutes. It arrived. And Gery climbed out, hugging Paula. For the next few days, on the idyllic island of Martha’s Vineyard Gery and Paula planned the rest of their lives. OH THAT DARNED FOG, that started it all. •••• Over thirty years later, Gary says, “When Paula goes to the store, I MISS HER.” He still runs a PERFECT inn. And, still has PERFECT love. So let this be a powerful message: in the pursuit of love, there’s a big difference between desperation and determination. Gery was not desperate. But he surely was DETERMINED with a small still voice within, guiding his steps. Do YOU have a perfect story? Wishes and Winks SQ
