PLAY HIGH UP THE PITCH AND KEEP IT TIGHT You have to stay fully focussed and move as a team, keep it tight and stop them finding the space they need to move the ball comfortably. STOP THEM ATTACKING DOWN THE WINGS Their two full-backs are very good and their attacking play is great. We marked Marcelo and Alves well. It can only be good news if they do not feature much and cannot reach the by line to cross to their forwards. KEEP NEYMAR AWAY FROM THE BOX Its crucial to keep Neymar under control and stop him encroaching on your area. Dont give him any space and force him to drop deep if he wants the ball. We gave him no chance to pick up the ball close to our area and he had to run long distances with it at his feet. FORCE THEM INTO MAKING MISTAKES We looked at a lot of Brazil games and noticed that most teams sat deep and waited for them to attack. The difference is that most teams waited for Brazil to make a mistake and we tried to force them into making them, by putting their midfielders under pressure and forcing them into making mistakes. PLAY IN THEIR HALF AND OPEN PLAY TO THE WINGS QUICKLY We played in their half and tried to attack them down the wings, where they were less protected. 100% FOCUS ON SET PIECES Its important to stay focussed and that includes set pieces, something that they do very well. RUN, RUN AND RUN Of course, you have to run a lot throughout the game because there is a lot of space to cover.
