HOW GOD LIFTS GRIEF THROUGH GODWINKS “When my mother first moved into our home and was able to take care of herself, shed get up in the morning, get dressed and go downstairs. But, because of her Alzheimer’s, she WOULDN’T REMEMBER to take her SHOWER. My husband came up with a great idea; buy a YELLOW RUBBER DUCK and put it on her bureau so she will know that she needs to get a shower in the morning. We did this for over two years. Close to the end, Mom was in hospice and I whispered in her ear, ‘When you get to heaven give me a SIGN that you are OK.’ Just after she went home to be with the Lord, my husband had a business trip. He didn’t want me to be home alone, so I agreed to accompany him. While on the train ride my husband got an e-mail from one of the sales reps he works with and they said that he would have to fly back to Boston after his meeting on Tuesday, instead of taking the train back on Wednesday. He canceled the hotel for Tuesday night. Then, he got word the Boston meeting was postponed, but the hotel we were staying at was now sold out, so we went to another hotel. When we arrived at our new hotel I walked into the bathroom, started to cry, and said, “That’s it, that‘s MY SIGN.” Sitting on the edge of the tub was a little YELLOW RUBBER DUCK. What better sign for me know Mom was in heaven and okay, but for God to show me a little yellow rubber duck. Since that moment of seeing that little yellow rubber duck, and many others, I have had the feeling of grief lifted off my shoulders.” Theresa Grasso •••• It’s amazing the number of times that you ask God for a SIGN of reassurance, that He delivers. And, could it be that when there is no sign, that we simply missed it? Staying in close communication with God, through prayer, is how we always get the godwinks we seek. Wishes for godwinks. SQuire
