HOW MUCH DO YOU WORTH? This was something funny but very serious that happened between Daniel and his friends, Wale and Bode. It happened as they were charting among themselves on a faithful Saturday. WALE (Faced Bode) Bode, you need to see the new car my MD brought to the office yesterday. BODE Tell me about it. WALE The car is baaaaad. Wahoo! Is good to be at the top. BODE Yes my friend, you can say that again. There’s nothing good like being at the top. I also saw a duplex last week. Men, it’s a dream house to have. WALE Friends, we must make this money. BODE Wale, I’ll prefer to make that statement personal. I must make this money. WALE (Laughed) You’re a selfish man. BODE But come to think of it, Daniel, you’re not saying anything. DANIEL Like what Bode? WALE To all we’ve been saying of cause. DANIEL Bode, I want to sell you. BODE Are you okay at all? DANIEL Yeah! How much are you? I have someone that is ready to buy you completely. WALE Daniel, are you alright at all? Tell me you now have a link to the kidnapers or is it the human-ritualist? BODE I wonder. DANIEL Even you, Wale, don’t you know that everybody has a price tag. BODE Then go and sell yourself. As for me, am not for sale. DANIEL Both of you don’t know anything. WALE You think so? DANIEL I don’t think so, I know so. It’s just that I am very expensive. And I mean very expensive. BODE What’s wrong with you today Daniel? DANIEL Nothing is wrong with me. I just want to know if you know how much you worth in the market, because all of us are for sale; And also to help you, so that you don’t sell yourself too cheap. WALE Daniel, what’s the meaning of all this? We’ve been enjoying ourselves since, but you’re about to spoil the whole thing. DANIEL No Wale. I’m not spoiling anything. I just felt since we are Christians, we need to know and understand our worth in this world. Do you not know that Adam and Eve sold themselves so cheap to the devil because they ignored the sense of their real worth? And since that time, Satan has always been in the business of buying people with one thing or the other. BODE Okay! Now I think I understand you, Mr. Sunday school teacher. You can save the teaching till Sunday school time at church tomorrow. WALE No Bode. Let him continue. DANIEL Esau sold his destiny for a plate of dinner, King Saul sold his royal destiny for a herd of cows, and Judas Iscariot sold his apostolic destiny for just thirty pieces of silver. Devil has never for once relented in negotiating for people’s destiny. That was why I asked you how much you worth. BODE This is what you should have explained before. But mind you, we are to relax, let us talk about the serious issue later. DANIEL Friends, if God Himself could placed a priceless price of the blood of His only begotten Son on me just to buy me over to Himself, how foolish do you think I’ll be if when the devil come to negotiate for my destiny at the price of this worldly possessions, and I give in to it? BODE Thank you Daniel, please can we change the topic, at least, I am not selling my destiny. DANIEL It is good to hear that, but it’ll be better if we consciously live our lives with a full understanding of our real worth. Many Christians had sold themselves to the hand of the devil unknowingly because they wanted a child at all cost. Some sold themselves because they needed a job “so badly”, for some, it was because they wanted to travel abroad and for some, it was to get a desired promotion. Many of us have forgotten what Jesus said in the last part of Luke 12 verse 15 that, “…a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Friends, please let us watch the strength of our desires for these worldly possessions, no matter how good is it for us to have them, because it is the usual channel the devil had used and still using to buy Christians over to himself. Tell me, which of these world products and fantasies is more costly than the BLOOD of Jesus Christ which God used to bought you for Himself? It’s unfortunate that many of our leaders in the church today are not helping us enough on this matter; they concentrate more in raising millionaires instead of raising Disciples. I just pray that you’ll understand what I’m talking about. WALE Hmm! I need to go home now. BODE Why? We still have close to one hour more. WALE Well, I don’t know about you, but I need to get home now and meditate on this matter very well. I need to really understand how much I worth. I remember there is a place in the bible Jesus used the expression “…is your life not worth more than those.”? I need to be alone for now. I’ll see you in church tomorrow. EPILOGUE The richest man in the world today still worth less than one hundred billion US dollar, and your life is much more worth than what a trillion Great Britain pound sterling can buy. I advise you to act like Wale by taking time out to really think and meditate on your real worth in life, so that whenever devil come to negotiate for your destiny, you won’t sell yourself to him at a cheap price he can afford. Joseph the Prime minister and Apostle Paul were men like you and I who were able to have full understanding of their worth. Even despite the level of their achievement in life, they never allow those riches and fame to rule them. Joseph said”… how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” And Apostle Paul said” But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.” I wish you well as I wish myself.
