The Lord Jesus Christ was led by the Holy Spirit – Matt. 4:1, John 5:30. The leading of God or divine communications come to your spirit man; that is the aspect of you God relates with and contacts you through because He Himself is a Spirit. John 4:24, Job 32:8 In the Old Testament, people sought divine guidance through various ways: * Urim and Thumim – Exo. 28:30, I Samuel 23:6 * Ephod – I Samuel 30:7 * The Seer (Prophet) – I Samuel 9:6, II Kings 3:11 * Prophecy – II Chronicles 20:14–17 * Angelic appearances – Genesis 18:1–15. In the New Testament, God leads us through His Holy Spirit (Hebrew 1:1). However, a believer can grieve God and the Holy Spirit by seeking for supernatural information from the devil either directly or indirectly through false prophets, astrologists, herbalists etc. God hates it and you must keep away from it. Isaiah 30:1–2. However the Holy Spirit will lead you through the following: (1) Through the word of God (Bible) Psalm 119:105. (2) Through the inner witness – This is referred to as a knowing. Acts 16:7, 18. This usually comes through (i) a divine restraint (ii) a divine constraint (iii) a divine rest (iv)a grief (3) Through a still small voice – like a gentle counsel within – Acts 8:29. (4) Through visions and dreams – Acts 10:3,11 (5) Through mental pictures or imaginations. The key word to being led is sensitivity. Always watch in your heart for Holy Spirit’s signals. The more you respond and yield to Him spontaneously, the more of divine guidance you enjoy. The more you neglect, ignore and disobey Him, the more difficult it is to pick His voice the next time He speaks. May the Lord reveal Himself to you as you seek to know more of God and His communication in Jesus’ name. Prayer:Father, I receive grace to know your voice in my life and follow it in Jesus’ name.
