HOW many of you give and take with the fingers when you ride? - TopicsExpress

HOW many of you give and take with the fingers when you ride? Anyone who plays a musical instrument such as the violin, flute or piano will appreciate how important the dexterity of the fingers are. In riding, the hand should be steady; in collection almost fixed - but that doesnt mean the feel on the rein will be heavy. Quite the opposite... it is important to be able to take or give with the fingers at any moment in time - and that can be anything from half-halts to rewarding - and saying thank you. This chance snap shot shows how - when you give with the fingers, the horse rarely takes advantage - quite the contrary. The rule of thumb should be that the more you give, the more he gives. Love the ears turning back in appreciation. As for rewards... well, I do this at least 6 times in a schooling session or lesson. Its so important for the continued co-operation of your horse... his mental health... and the state of his limbs.
