HQMC issued the following statement today. Please protect yourselves and our Marines in your online interactions. ISIS is using Social Media to scan for military members and their families to gather intel on addresses, email, jobs, etc. Please be vigilant on what you and your family members post on Social Media. Some basic tips include: 1. Monitor your account privacy to ensure only those you intend to see posts and information have access (friends/friends of friends) 2. Check photos and posts for location identifiers and ensure your home address is never accessible to anyone on social media 3. Only associate with people online that you know and trust, your Facebook friends are considered associates for security purposes (government clearances, etc.) 4. Do not publicly post (or make accessible outside of this closed group) information about unit functions or operations 5. Monitor the applications that you use inside Facebook, each one has an individual terms of service agreement and may use your information differently (you are not the customer in most cases-you are the product that the service markets to advertisers) Need help?
