HSE COMBO NEWS: As part of preparation for the flood as predicted by the Nigerian Metrological Agency, the Kogi State government has procured boats and sea vessels for rescue operations. Governor Idris Wada disclosed this yesterday when he received the Assistant Director, Maritime Safety and Nautical Survey of the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Capt. Kunle Olagunle Olayiwola, in Lokoja. The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, said the purchase of the boats and vessels was based on NIMET’s prediction for 2013 and to avoid what he called the self help approach made by some boat owners to move people out of flooded areas during last year’s incident. According to him, the state has established a maritime safety committee on the advice of the Nigerian Navy. He pledged to give support to policies and programs of NIMASA that are geared towards safety regulation. __ SL8.IT for Blackberry
