HUGO, Okla. -- OSBI says around 2:45 p.m. Hugo Police got word that a 33 year old man, wanted out of Texas for armed robbery, was at the Choctaw Casino in Grant. When police approached him, he ran across Highway 271, and stole a pick up truck with a rifle in it. A pursuit then began involving the Hugo Police Department, Choctaw County Sheriffs Office, Oklahoma highway patrol and OSBI agents in the area, said Gary Perkinson with OSBI. During the 15 minute chase, the suspect traveled several county roads, even hitting a semi. When he re-entered the highway, OHP got involved. The trooper engaged him tactical vehicle intervention the subject ran off the roadway to the right and crashed right here at the Choctaw Casino, said OHP Lt. Shawn Pierce. Gary Perkinson with OSBI says the man took the rifle from the truck and fired in the direction of the officers. The subject allegedly stepped out of the pick up with the rifle in a threatening manner which led officers to fire at the subject killing him, said Perkinson. Right now, law enforcement will not say which agencys officer shot the suspect because the investigation is ongoing. Currently investigating it is the OSBI and Choctaw Nation, said LT. Piece. They are the two primary agencies involved. The mans name is not being released, pending notification of family. The man was wanted out of Sulphur Springs, Texas, on a warrant for aggravated robbery of the Masseys Gulf Convenience Store in November.
