HUMAN RIGHTS - SECOND MYANMAR-U.S. DIALOGUE ***************************************************************************** The Second Myanmar-U.S. Human Rights Dialogue began in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday. The dialogue was opened by U.S. Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Tom Malinowski and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs U Thant Kyaw. The first dialogue was held in October 2012, hoped to advance human rights in Myanmar by enabling regular and in-depth communication on human rights and related issues by government officials and civil society groups. Some of the topics in this second meeting range from review on concrete steps towards reform to child protecting minorities and civilian in conflict areas. Delegates will also discuss immigration, conditions in Rakhine State and democratic legal reform. Prior to this dialogue, the US delegation was in Myitkyina to meet human rights activists, civil society groups, ethnic leaders and government officials to gain insight into the human rights situation in Kachin State. The dialogue will end on Thursday.
