HWN LOCAL: The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Bauchi State yesterday ordered the immediate closure of a private clinic in Darazo local government area. The state NMA chairman, Dr Yusuf Abdu, who gave the directive after inspecting the clinic, said, "We cannot allow patients’ lives to be put in danger. "We cannot fold our arms and allow unqualified health personnel to attend to the sick as it constitutes threat to their lives." Abdu said that the clinic was not fit to operate, adding that all patients undergoing treatment in the place would be transferred to General Hospital, Darazo. He said the inspection team also discovered at the clinic that its environment was unhygienic. Abdu said, Surgeries like appendisectomy, herniectomy and even complicated deliveries were being carried out by a community health worker. The team accused owner of the clinic of not providing essential equipment in the clinic, which he said, had been operating for more than nine years without registration with the association. __ SL8.IT for Blackberry
