Ha! Bet you thought Id forgotten my weekly update! On the advice of my social media team, we decided to delay until Sunday to see how many more people my post might reach. Well see if it makes any difference. So, back to my week, I last updated you before going to RIAT last weekend. I had a great time visiting the RIAT cadet camp, where an amazing group of volunteers support over 700 cadets doing a wide range of tasks for the Tattoo. Took 2 CWOs to the Gala dinner, which was great, and also visited the ACO display area, which looked superb. We also hosted a visited from Maj Gen Crackett, who is the top man on Reserves and Cadets in MoD and I think he was suitably impressed. Home then for a delayed weekend before setting off on another tour of cadet land, this time taking in the Wg HQ at Hants & Isle of Wight, the Wg HQ at Dorset & Wilts and two Sqn visits. The first was to Ringwood and Fordingbridge for their Lees Trophy inspection as the SW reps; they put on a great show especially the first aid demo involving a multiple RTA, and some great cakes (not that the Lees scoring includes extra points for cakes 😏). The next evening I had an informal visit to Wokingham Sqn, where we had a great Q&A session and they tried to improve my ac Recce skills. During those 2 days, I also called on the Stn Cdrs of RAF Boscombe Down and RAF Odiham, surprising the latter by presenting him with a Comdts Commendation for his Stns outstanding support to the ACO. I also called in to see some cadets from D&N Wg who happened to be on summer camp - another Q&A session and witnessed a short service at the Odiham memorial. After that, it was off to Farnborough for FIA14, my first visit to this event. It was extremely hot but it was fantastic to see another great group of cadets and staff helping support yet another major public aviation event. Cadets and staff looked after me superbly and I was able to do some high-level networking with senior industry representatives, exploring ways of linking cadets to the many aviation opportunities that await them. We are hoping that FIA16 will be even bigger from an air cadet perspective to help celebrate our 75th. Travelled home in 30 degrees plus for over 4.5 hrs so was very glad to make it back for a much anticipated weekend off. Now having a rest to recharge the batteries before another busy week. Will tell you about it next weekend!
