Had a great day on set today working for Microsoft. The gig was a direct to camera address, kind of a testimonial, and not the kind of gig I get to do all that often. The first time I ever had to do this kind of assignment was in Los Angeles in 2003 or 4. It was, literally, one of my first times on set, and my first gig for my commercial agent. I did not know what to expect or what to really do. I thought I had learned my lines...But when it was time to look into that big, dark lens, I froze. Completely shut down. I was bullied by the DP. It was humiliating. It almost made me quit. Today, I knew I would be up for a similar challenge. I prepared like hell. During the rehearsal, I was NERVOUS and terrible, but I knew, because I have experience, that we would do it a few times, which gave me CONFIDENCE, which improved my performance, and by the third take I was in my groove, and the production team was loving my work. I am so grateful for my acting experiences, good and bad, and I am lucky to be able to help younger actors learn how the business works and how to prepare for success.
