Had a long hard but brilliant day at the Regional Liberal democrat Conference in Oundle. There were some excellent speakers, and debates on Energy, HS2, the EU and Welfare reforms. Real issues for real people. Our local MEP Bill Newton Dunn was joined by our other candidates for election next year. I was impressed by his knowledge and dedication to making sure the UKs interest is always to the fore. The Liberal democrats are the only Party who actively support a YES vote to EU membership. We clearly need to stay in the EU, but the LDs will seek a better deal to make it much more effective, less bureaucratic and less wasteful in the future. HS2 stirred up some quite heated exchanges of opinion, but in the end conference adopted to back it. I suspect the arguments will continue for some time to come. Good to see many facebook faces there, it was made very obvious that social networking was playing a big part in getting the LD message across, and healthy debates were being pursued on online blogs. All in all a good day.
