Had a very enjoyable concert at the Altamonte Chapel today. Me, John DePaola, Theresa Scavarda backed up by Paul Scavarda and Charlie Silva. As I suspected, it swung its ass off and then some. Working with John DePoala is quite an entry into two horn invention. John can play lead, play great jazz, harmonize, play correct and inventive backup and has unbelievable endurance. Believe me...MF Horn. Theresa has style, pitch, restraint, depth of the written word and knows what swing is. Her husband Paul, plays with the aplomb of modern guitar players but has the added respectful connection to the old masters. What a perfect amalgam. Charlie Silva knows where to inject hard swing and when to let it just flow into the ensemble. A bass lesson in one sentence. Personally, I had just gotten my horn out of the shop...I am happy it rose to my efforts. At my age, you never know. All in all a freakin ball. I think we got a couple of gigs out of the effort.
