Had a visit with the surgeon, Dr. McKenzie today. (Did I mention that this is the guy to see for all your esophagectomy needs? Hes the best!) Results: 1. Off of liquids only diet. I can now eat anything I want! (unless it makes me sick, which may happen even to foods I formerly could eat.) 2. Need to use J-tube (feeding tube) for nourishment only 12 hours a day (down from 24.) He had previously hinted he might get rid of it altogether, but I seem to have LOST weight since being discharged from hospital. So maybe another week. 3. Removed dressing from my rather heinous wounds in my right side and back. 4. For my reading pleasure, gave me a copy of the Operative Report, giving a blow-by-blow of my second surgery (to find a bleeder), in which they opened my thorax to find nothing, closed that up, and then opened my abdomen to find 3 LITERS of blood. Oy! (I am convinced Dr. McKenzie saved my life.) Except for the losing of weight, I seem to be recovering as well as, or better, than he had expected! Hit like to show your appreciation of Dr. McKenzie!
