Had an interesting phone call this morning - he said he was calling from Publishers Clearing House, and his name was Dave Sawyer, the one who hands out the big check. Okay. He said from my entry, I had won 2.1 million dollars and a Mercedes. Not bad. He wanted to know if I wanted the delivery (today) to be public or private. I said private (but if I had to do it again, Id choose public). Then he said that there are a number of government regulations that had to be followed and filled out, but that all my taxes had been taken care of already. I kept waiting for the punch line. Then after a number of other things about government forms, he told me that there was a service fee from Publishers Clearing House - $900 or so (I dont remember the exact amount). I said that would be fine - just take it out of the 2.1 million, and give me the rest. He didnt seem to think that was a good idea. I said it would be much easier and quicker - otherwise, Id have to take the cashiers check to the bank, let them check to see if it was legitimate, then get the $900 from that, and come back and give it to him. It would make it so much easier just to take it out first, and give me the remainder. He kept mentioning government forms, and didnt I want the money? I kept telling him to take it out of the 2.1 and Id be glad to take it. Finally he just hung up! When I went to check the caller ID - private name. So I guess Im still broke!
