Had another wonderful musical treat on Friday at concert at the Leeds Assembly rooms from the tabla master Zakir Hussain . He played with a hand-picked group of India’s finest young musicians, with a classical repertoire of ragas and talas at the heart of a group that explores the frontier between traditional and contemporary. The stand out section for me and Cathy was Zakir playing with the bansuri - bamboo flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. A hautingly beautiful combination of sounds. The concert was very well supported by the Leeds Indian community and it was great to hear from the person sitting next to us how Zakir is reverred in the Indian musicians community as the greatest living tabla player in the world.
