Had been missing my winter Snowy Owl fix for the year and since we have yet to see many here in N. Illinois I headed up to Horicon National Wildlife Refuge early this morning arriving right at sunrise but seeing no sun! Located the juvenile Snowy Owl almost immediately but too early for good pictures so had to wait. She is sitting on the ice right off the road on my right (trying to take pictures from the drivers side while holding a 600mm out the passenger side window is a treat) just off the road. Later found this beautiful juvenile Red-tailed Hawk drooling over 100s of Ring-necked Pheasants in a cage below it, the pheasants did not look worried at all about the Red-tails presence.
