Had the privilege of playing college football for Mike Swider... He shared this years theme for his men. Take a moment & read his call to action! Coach Swider isnt in the business of creating college football players... Hes in the business of creating God-Fearing MEN. Forever in his debt. In this desperately crucial, convulsive time, unavailability and cowardice is a terrible sin. The times demand big men. Not men who are big shots, but men who are big in heart and mind - great men, large souled men. The world needs men with vision, men whose feet are on the ground and whose eyes are on the far horizon. It needs farsighted, selfless men - men with goals - men whose hearts God has touched - men committed and dedicated to God and His holy, high purposes – righteous men - men of integrity - men of service – men who seek the truth and justice - men of conviction and principle – men of physical and mental courage. However, here lies the tragedy of so many men today. They are not big men. They are little men because of their unavailability and lack of courage. They are needed, but not present! Needed by their family, their community, their nation, their world - but they don’t see beyond the four walls of their own existence. They are men who think little, plan little, dream little and serve little. They are men without ambition. They are indifferent to problems other than their own. They refuse to be bothered. They have no concern for those things which do not hold a personal reference. They don’t have the courage to step outside their comfort zone or to take a stand in a hostile environment. Scripture challenges today’s men in I Corinthians 16:13 when it says: “Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” Scripture also gives us 2 examples of big men – Moses and Isaiah. Psalm 106:23 “Therefore He said that He would destroy them, had not Moses stood in the breach before Him, to turn away His wrath…” Isaiah 6:8 “I heard the voice of the Lord saying: ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me!’” God needs big men. Wheaton Football needs big men. Your families and wives will someday need big men - men who are available, selfless, mentally and physically tough, committed - men who fear God and not culture, who live life and make decisions based on principle and conviction rather than public opinion and popularity – men who audit their souls regularly - men who will say, “Here am I. Send me.” Wheaton Football specifically needs men who will do what they are told, when they are told. It needs selfless men motivated by a cause rather than glory, who refuse to shirk responsibility or cower in the face of the enemy or pressure. First team, second team, scout team, special team, practice or game it doesn’t matter – a Wheaton Football player will always raise his hand and say, “Here am I. Send me.” When something needs to be done - when someone needs to step up and step forward – when someone needs to lead – when a man of integrity and courage is needed – a Wheaton Football player will always raise his hand and say, “Here am I. Send me.” WHEATON FOOTBALL 2014 “HERE AM I. SEND ME”
