Had to put the Mazda in the shop yesterday. I thought it was a battery problem and changed it. Actually, we were due to change that one out anyway, but it wasnt the immediate problem. So, into the shop. The new evidence was looking like an ignition or a starter issue. Im thinking several hundred dollars, when all was said and done. I had it towed to our regular mechanic, on Galvez St. after hours. When I called him today he said hed found the problem and it would be done today. Melly and I were resigned to laying out more cash than we could really afford when we went to pick it up. $28 and change. I love this guy. He knows I dont know squat about cars and could easily charge me anything. Ive never caught him in lie. Hes never failed to beat his very reasonable estimate and it stays fixed. As a result, since the first time we went to hime (and weve a lot of work done) I have never felt a need to look for anyone else. When he cant do the job, he says so, and sends me to someone who will know Im his regular. They, in turn, treat me right. This is the way business is suppose to run. A good job at a reasonable price will bring back the customer time, and time again. Al Cacamo has made much money from me. By treating me right, Ive given him repeat business and sent him more customers. Hes the first mechanic Ive ever known who makes me want to pay him more than he asks. On top of all this, hes a pleasant guy to be around.
