Hadeeth 43 To love your country is a part of Iman. Classified fabricated by Saghaani. Is it wrong to love one’s country? Should we love our country more than we love Justice, or God? Should our love for country blind us to what’s right and what’s wrong? In our mass media there are frequent questions as to whether we Muslims can be trusted, whether we are loyal to this country or whether our loyalty is elsewhere. Living under constant suspicion is not acceptable. We have a duty set out clearly what Islam has to say about Patriotism so that we can remove unfounded fears and phobias about our presence here in Australia, in Europe and the West generally. The English poet, Ben Johnson wrote: “Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.” By this he meant that when leaders no longer command any moral authority, when they can no longer justify their views by rational argument, by moral and ethical criteria, they resort to rousing calls for patriotism. It is sometimes a last desperate attempt to justify immoral and unethical actions by making a crude appeal to the emotions of the public. “…the best of people, those who enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and who have faith in Allah.” Surah Al Imraan, Verse 110 This has nothing to do with your emotions, your nationality, your race, your political party, or whether you are rich or poor, Christian, Jewish or Muslim. It’s a simple matter of right and wrong. Which side are you on, the side of good or evil? Do you work for God or against God? In the USA there is a motto: “One Nation under God.” It’s very important to understand clearly what God stands for, and what the Nation stands for. The two are not always on the same side! During the American Civil War, one General turned to Abraham Lincoln and said: “Don’t worry, Mr President, God is on our side!” The President replied: “What really worries me is: Are we on God’s side?” A very important difference… This fabricated khabar promotes nationalism. At present nationalism is a cancer in the body of the ummah, which stunts the spiritual and economical growth of the ummah. This fabricated khabar causes Muslims to call themselves British Muslim, Pakistani Muslim, Indian Muslim etc. So they see themselves as Indian first and Muslim last. These expressions enhance prejudices and deviations among the believers. The only time a country is worth loving is when Shariah is being implemented in that country to its fullest. Hence we love and hate only for Allahs sake.
