[Haider: The movie review] Act 1 The Father is betrayed The Mother is torn The Uncle jumps in to persuade The Prodigal Son returns home. The army and the rebels occupy People are mere pawns But even pawns can rise to be a knight and queen and anything in between. Act 2 Long live the new King The Queen has lost her heart While the Knight looses his mind Good and evil plot revenge to rip them apart. Truth frees the mind from shackles And the tongue from politeness The seemingly innocent have sinister motives And the madman is sanest. PS: If you are asking yourself To see or not to see this movie, that is out of the question. Watch it. It is not unpatriotic to love it. Just like it isnt unpatrotic to empathise with people. Good and evil are found everywhere. Whether it is in the army or in freedom fighters. Whether it is in relatives or friends. Whether it is in your home or from outside it. Whether it is within you or without you. Tabu is perfection in her portrayal of the woman torn in between Father, Son and Holy Shit. Kay Kay Menon draws the morally ambiguous man awesomely. And Shahid Kapoor continues to surprise us. He grew up from a boy into a man in Jab We Met. But we meet the real mature actor in Haider. He gradually oscillates from being normal into being insane. An insanity that captivates everyone because of the child-like truths he utters. Freed from fear and powered by hate, his journey is worth following. Because his story is our own story about hate and revenge. PPS: Cant get Irfan Khans intro scene music outta my head! And I dont want to! Too good! - Rejoy
