Haider watched at Muktas Cinemas A2(Previous Ramakrishna 70MM) Kudos to India for allowing this movie and CBFC for good censoring watching Haider is surely like watching a tragic Shakespearean play. The Soliloquoys, the theatrics and added to it some Bollywood songs that are situational and not dream like,Haider makes a strong political statement. Its Vishal Bharadwaj at its best and Shahid Kapoor best performance till date. The Hyderabadi lady who made the World notice her through The Namesake excels again as Gertrude aka Ghazala.A loose adaption of The Hamlet,Haider has many nuances to it.India and Pakistan fight over Kashmir and Kashmir wants her freedom and Kashmir is Haider itself, psychotic,Gollum like moving extreme emotions and sometimes identifying with Azaadi brothers on the other side and sometimes being an unwanted child of both India and Pakistan.Basharat Peer,The Kashmiri writer who stays in NY and has never visited Kashmir since 1995 pens an excellent script and doesnt spare anyone in India. The disappearances which are never reported in India Press,The Azadi guys who want freedom but yet are confused regarding joining with Pakistan,Many Half Widows, half mothers(Another interesting writer The Half Mother by Mohsin Bashir too is popular in NY),the movie almost makes a political statement that would exactly coincide with Pakistan Kashmir policy but some ends are loosely tied. The Indian Army justifies its presence,Fun is made of AFSPA(A Brilliant Soliloquoy by Shahid on Kashmir),Indian Army saving Kashmiris during the Tribal Invasion and the last but not the least Indian Army saving Kashmiris during the recent floods;but mostly the movie is dark yet with some brilliant cinematography. The movie is a tragedy like Kashmir and forget those desi Thomson/Thomspson(From Tintin) Sallu Bhai impersanators surely makes great viewing. The torture scenes are ofcourse gruesome and the cinema hall is virtually empty.Yet this is a compelling cinema that should surely be watched by those interested in Kashmir. And its just a movie and theres not much on Kashmiri pandits but when I was in United States during the Kashmiri Earthquake many dead bodies were recovered in Kashmir after landslides and one of my close dentist friend from Kashmir went missing. The movie atleast asks questions and deserves Five out of Five and wish the makers included a short video on the movie and the makers/actors ideological views. The movie may be banned and in India if someone wants to watch it,watch it fast as this is surely one gem of the movie from Bollywood.
