Hair is made up of keratin a form of protein. Protein latches - TopicsExpress

Hair is made up of keratin a form of protein. Protein latches onto the hair’s surface and forms a layer that helps retain moisture. All hair protein treatments, some more than others. My diet has a lot of protein in it so, every so often I will do a protein treatment, BUT the protein will be towards the end of the ingredient list. If I used a product with protein at the beginning of the list, my hair will feel dry and straw-like. If your hair feels limp, you probably are in need of a protein treatment. To test whether or not you need protein; a strand test is the way to go. Start with a damp or wet head of hair and give it a little tug. If your hair stretches a bit then resists your hair is in good balance. If it stretches and stretches then snaps, you are in need of protein. Read the labels on the products you use, if you see these keywords: keratin, collagen, elastin or amino acid they are another name for protein. If you make up your own protein treatments, eggs, mayo and coconut milk and yogurt are all good to use.
