Haircuts are so satisfying, and that I can just get one on a whim, from someone I dont know, and it takes only 10 minutes, and all the wonderful tools are right there, powered by electricity, and pay what I would otherwise pay for a cocktail at the bar, and have a friendly conversation, and be out of there in no time, this is pure luxury. Weve come a long way from the days of Rossini, when the Barber ran the town because he was the only guy who had tools to do anything at all, so of course he pulled your teeth and cut off your gangrene foot too. (One funny thing is that the person who cut my hair warned me very sternly: do NOT go to Malaysia because the plane will certainly be lost and that would be the end of me.)
