Hakeem condemns Mahiyangana Mosque attack July 12, 2013, 12:00 pm Sri Lanka Muslim Congress leader, Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem yesterday strongly condemned Thursday night’s attack on the Mahiyangana Masjidul Araba Mosque on. Issuing a media statement, Minister Hakeem said that a group had stoned the Mosque and thrown flesh of an animal into its precincts. The Minister had taken up the matter with the Officer in Charge of the Mahiyangana Police and instructed him to take steps to maintain law and order. The Minister also had instructed the Ceylon Electricity Board, Area Engineer to look into the cause of electricity breakdown prior to the attack. While taking up the matter with the incumbents of mosques, the Minister said that attacks on mosques had taken place in the recent past and it is the duty of the police and the government to look into such incidents.
