Hal is a local entrepreneur. He had contributed immensely to the efforts to bring out the potential here in High Point. He personally has helped me with extremely valuable advice on running a small shop. He wants to ride a bike, not because he has to, but because it is good for his body, mind, and community. This was the letter he sent me after the first attempt to commute. Hi Steve, First off, thank you for setting my bike up for me and taking care of my semi-retarded front wheel today. I just road about 11 miles for the first time in easily 20 years. My back feels good, and feel good for doing it. (Very Tired!) Just wanted to let you know what my experience was like riding from Archdale to Downtown High Point. Sure you know this and everyone that rides knows this but I was truly taken aback. My maps says if I had ridden down main street it was under 8 miles round trip. I was too chicken shit to do that so I took the scenic, safer route...wow, this city is very scary if you ride a bike! If you attempt to actually heed the traffic regulations I found quickly I would die. Looks like I will be carrying my bike on my car and riding around on the sidewalks from now on in High Point anyway. I tell you this because now, more than before I got this bike, I realize what a mountain you have in front of you building a bike friendly city. I will also assist you any way I can to help in your effort as I can see the benefits but also see the huge safety issues. What should have been an enjoyable ride turned into a white knuckle, sphincter clenching ordeal. Let me know how I can support your efforts in the future, and again. thank you for your help getting me back on the road again. This is not the first time, not even today, that I have heard from someone that wants to ride but doesnt due to lack of infrastructure. We have the pavement already, with a little paint we can transform our city! #ridethepoint #peoplearethepoint
