Half a million elderly people to spend Christmas Day alone Many older feel they dont want to be seen as a burden, say the Royal Voluntary Service. Nearly half a million people aged over 75 will spend Christmas Day alone this year because they dont want to be seen as a burden, their families have moved away or they dont talk to their children anymore. Last Christmas more than 300,000 pensioners spent the festive day without seeing any relatives or friends and this year numbers are expected to jump to over 489,800. A third of the elderly said their families lived too far away or in a different country while others did not want to put their family under any extra pressure at Christmas. telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/11204477/Half-a-million-elderly-people-to-spend-Christmas-Day-alone.html
