Halfway into the 2014/15 season, we look at some of the best signings in no particular order. Issa Sarr [Orlando Pirates] – Bucs fans were understandably worried when Andile Jali left for Belgium, but that’s all in the past thanks to the Senegalese holding midfielder. He’s been described as a “soldier” and “warrior” due to his performances this season and rightly so, because he’s played his heart out. Thulani Hlatshwayo [Bidvest Wits] – Tyson has not missed a League match for the Students all season and Gavin Hunt has also handed him the captain’s armband. He’s also been part of the Bafana Bafana team. Great signing. Dove Wome [SuperSport United] – Eight goals in 14 starts speaks volumes, especially for a midfielder. The Togolese international has continued from where he left off last season. He scored nine times for Mamelodi Sundowns in 16 starts in the past season and he’s put in some fine performances for SuperSport United, where he is on loan. The club is reportedly ready to offer him a three-year deal. Lucky Baloyi [Moroka Swallows] – At Kaizer Chiefs, ‘Sheriff’ played just seven times last season including two substitute appearances and he has managed to turn things around at Swallows. The Dube Birds are struggling in 14th place on the log at the halfway mark, but individually Baloyi has had a decent season. Cole Alexander [Polokwane City] – Here is one player who is finally making his mark. The midfielder made his PSL debut back in 2008/09 for Ajax Cape Town, but since then he has not made much of an impact, until this season of course. At Polokwane City, he’s shown his real qualities. William Twala [Chippa United] – Considered a Pirates reject, Twala has missed just one match for the Chilli Boys this season. Allan Freese of Platinum Stars told KickOff early in November that he is interested in signing the winger and that’s not surprising, after all Twala has been impressive. Ndumiso Mabena [Platinum Stars] – Another so-called Pirates reject, who has managed to get his career back on track. Of course there is still a big room for improvement in terms of his game, but his seven goals in 18 starts for Dikwena this season will definitely be a massive boost especially for a player who was very low on confidence when he joined the club a few months ago. Kwanda Mngonyama [Maritzburg United] – He played very well for Bidvest Wits last season and he’s doing the same for the Team of Choice. Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has rewarded him with a place in the provisional squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and what’s more? Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane was reluctant to let him go out on loan again and based on the way he’s been playing, you can see why. Clayton Daniels [SuperSport United] – He’s led by example as captain of the club and played a key role when Gordon Igesund’s men won the Telkom Knockout last month. On the day, Daniels took the responsibility and converted two penalties in the final against Platinum Stars. For a player who was signed as a free agent, that was a bargain. Special mention: Mondli Cele [Maritzburg United] - He was signed from ABC Motsepe League side Gamalakhe United after being spotted by Maritzburg United’s assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi in last season’s Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash against Santos. That’s a big step up. Of course he is an unknown, but he is slowly but surely making his mark with 13 starts and three goals to his name this season. The fact that he is in Bafana Bafana’s provisional squad is a strong indication that he’s had a good start… Pity he made his PSL debut at 25. #kby #ComeDuze2015
