Halifax District RCMP are again reminding residents to lock up and remove valuables following a number of recent thefts from motor vehicles. Within the last week, RCMP have received 21 complaints of vehicles being broken into in the communities below: Cole Harbour Baron Court Avondale Road Sophia Crescent Tantallon Prospect Road Hillcrest Avenue Silver Birch Road Lodge Avenue Lower Sackville Stokil Drive Tedbury Crescent Noria Crescent Walker Avenue Sackville Drive Oakfield Park Drive Lodge Avenue Musquodoboit Harbour Petpeswick Road In most cases, car doors were left unlocked making it easy for criminals to access valuables.The thefts occur overnight and during every night of the week. Stolen items include loose change, wallets, Ipods and chargers, watches, sunglasses, and flashlights. Quick tips: · Lock your doors. Even if you dont have anything valuable in your car. This will discourage thieves looking for easy targets. It will also deter those who would go into an unlocked car to look for a trunk or hood release button in order to steal parts or the contents of the trunk. · Park in your garage if you have one, and lock both your vehicle and your garage. · Park in a well-lit area where natural surveillance will serve as a deterrence. · Dont leave your garage opener, house/business keys or vehicle registration papers in your vehicle. If thieves stole these items, they could use them to commit other crimes including identity theft or break & enter. · Dont leave briefcases, purses and backpacks that may contain wallets, identification, laptops, cell phones and other valuables unattended in your vehicle.
