Halley’s Comet isn’t swinging back near us until 2061, but if you catch the Eta Aquarid meteor shower this week, you can see parts of it. The shower, which peaks May 5-7, occurs as Earth passes through the dust left by the comet on its 75-year journey. To see the Eta Aquarids, which appear to radiate from the constellation Aquarius, head out before dawn to a spot with open sky away from city lights and look to the east. Southern Hemisphere viewers will get the best view; in the Northern Hemisphere, most of the meteors will appear to skim just above the horizon. To learn more about the science of meteors, check out our guide, and let us know if you catch a glimpse of tonights shower!
