Hamamatou Harouna is a True Disruptor. Called the “bravest girl you will ever meet,” Hamamatou, a 10-year-old, has polio and cannot walk. She was left to fend for herself in the midst of a war between Christians and Muslims in the Central African Republic when Christian soldiers attacked her village. Eventually, her 12-year-old brother rescued her, but soon abandoned her in a bush when she became too heavy to carry. Hamamatou stayed there for ten days without food or water. On the tenth day, a man she recognized as an enemy found her, and rather than killing her, took her to a camp where she was nursed back to health. She currently remains at the camp, alone.
