Hamdan inaugurates ultra-modern cruise terminal ( Dubai Government 📅 11-12-2014 ) Dubai Crown Prince His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has inaugurated, on Thursday, DP World’s ultra-modern third cruise terminal, The Hamdan bin Mohammed Cruise Terminal, set to be the world’s largest single, covered cruise facility capable of welcoming 14,000 cruise passengers a day. Sheikh Hamdan was received at the new cruise terminal by chairman of DP World Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Vice Chairman of DP World Jamal Majid bin Thaniah, CEO of DP World Mohammed Sharaf, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of DP World, UAE Region Mohammed Al Muallem and other senior officials. During the visit, Sheikh Hamdan met Emirati employees and viewed a range of demonstrations charting the development of the port since 1967. Accompanied by the DP World chairman, top executives and guests, Sheikh Hamdan toured the terminal and the UAE National Art Exhibition on display on the sideline of the inauguration. DP World’s guests at the event included senior officials across Dubai’s government departments, foreign embassies and consulates, and executives from the cruise, shipping line and tourist sectors. DP World welcomed 4,000 passengers at the new terminal on Thursday from Costa Cruise and Aida Cruise ships, as part of Arabian Gulf tours. The operation involving welcoming passengers is carried out in close coordination with Dubai Police, the General Directorate Dubai Residency and Foreign Affairs, the Roads and Transport Authority and Dubai Customs. The Hamdan bin Mohammed Cruise Terminal covers 28,000 square meters and is the latest addition to the Dubai Cruise Terminal facility at Mina Rashid. Commenting on the event, Bin Sulayem said that it is a great honour to name the luxury cruise facility after the Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in appreciation of his vital role in preserving the legacy of Dubai and our nation’s heritage in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai and the UAE a centre for tourism. He added that “Dubai’s vision is to attract 20 million tourists a year by 2020, with the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing anticipating cruise tourist numbers reaching the one-million mark by that time.” “The new building will increase the handling capacity of the three cruise terminals in Dubai from two million tourists a year to seven million.” Bin Sulayem continued, “The terminal is the largest and most modern cruise facility in the Middle East and the region, enabling award-winning Mina Rashid to now serve up to seven cruise vessels at one time and more than 25,000 passengers in its three cruise terminals.”
